My dear wife and I are finally on vacation in Sicily. I’ve been told that Sicilian wines are among the most fascinating in Italy. I’m no expert, but I’d like to try one that’s really good to understand the reasons for their popularity. So, which Sicilian wine would be best for a first taste? Do you think white, red, or something else would be better for a beginner?

Oh, we just had a vacation in Sicily a few weeks ago! Hey, so where in Sicily are you thinking of staying? It has been found that the east and west sides of the island are quite different in terms of wine style. Anyway, so our story was that we rented an apartment from one old guy. When he handed us the keys, it hit me that I didn’t really know much about wine. So, I figured, why not ask him for some pointers? He told me that I wouldn’t understand or remember anything he told me the first time. So he suggested an article about top 10 sicilian wines. And my goodness, how valuable it was for us at that time! So, we tried a bunch of wines at once – Grillo, Nero d’Avola, and Catarratto. But the real discovery was Frappato – very soft, light, with a berry flavor and no excessive acidity. We both fell in love with it, and I really recommend trying it if you want something pleasant and unobtrusive.
