The Last Light

Genre: Political Thriller / Tech Drama / Love Story

FADE IN:

EXT. WASHINGTON D.C. – NIGHT
Rain lashes against empty streets. Streetlights flicker. Billboards flash ERROR messages. A city once alive with power now hums like a ghost.

A HOMELESS MAN huddles under a bridge with a WOMAN beside him. A battered notebook sits on his lap, filled with sketches of circuits and equations.

This is PAUL SAVLUC. Foreign. Homeless. But his eyes burn with intensity.

WOMAN (softly):
You never stop, do you?

PAUL (without looking up):
If I stop, the lights go out. For everyone.

INT. COMMUNITY SHELTER – BASEMENT – DAY

Makeshift wires snake across the floor, connecting car batteries to scavenged laptops. Paul types furiously. The screen fills with cascading lines of CODE.

Above, families crowd into the shelter. Lights flicker once… then stabilize. A cheer erupts.

KID (pointing):
Mom, he fixed it!

Paul doesn’t look up. His hands keep working.

EXT. BALTIMORE NEIGHBORHOOD – NIGHT

Everywhere is dark—except for one glowing block. Streetlights powered by Paul’s patchwork solar grid cut through the chaos.

News vans swarm. Cameras roll.

REPORTER (voice-over):
In a city drowning in blackouts, one man—a homeless foreigner—has kept the lights on. His name: Paul Savluc.

INT. FEDERAL DATA CENTER – NIGHT

Chaos. Officials scream into phones. Screens flash warnings: “AI SYSTEMS COMPROMISED.”

Paul walks in, notebook in hand. Everyone stares.

GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL:
You? What can you possibly do?

Paul drops the notebook on the table, filled with hand-drawn algorithms.

PAUL:
I don’t have clearance. I don’t have a title.
But I have the code that can stop this.

Silence. Then—reluctant nods.

MONTAGE – “THE REBUILD”

  • Paul teaches kids how to turn broken laptops into servers.
  • Communities string up solar panels from scrap.
  • Volunteers run food simulations on Paul’s open-source software.
  • The woman he loves holds his hand as he speaks to crowds.

PAUL (voice-over):
America doesn’t need saving from the top down. It needs rebuilding from the ground up.

EXT. NATIONAL MALL – DAY

A massive crowd gathers. Flags wave. The country watches as Paul speaks from a simple wooden podium.

PAUL:
I came here with nothing. I lived on your streets. But I saw what America still is—when we choose each other. Together, we survived. Together, we will build.

Thunderous applause. Tears in the crowd.

The woman steps beside him, placing her hand in his. Cameras flash.

INT. WHITE HOUSE – OVAL OFFICE – NIGHT

Paul stands alone, staring at the glow of the city outside. He is not a president, not a general. Just a man who gave everything when the country had nothing.

WOMAN (whispering):
You saved them.

PAUL (quietly):
No. We did.
